The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) in its transformation into a modern, professional, and service-oriented force.
The UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Frederick Ampiah, recently met with Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Faiyia Sellu, and members of the SLP senior management team to discuss strategic support for the Police’s transition agenda for 2026–2027.
The discussions focused on key priorities, including institutional reform, systems strengthening, and improved service delivery. Both parties highlighted the need to enhance governance structures, modernize operational systems, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and build capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.
Mr. Ampiah emphasized UNDP’s continued partnership with the SLP in advancing reforms that promote professionalism, human rights, community trust, and efficient policing. “A modern police service is essential for democratic governance, rule of law, and sustainable development,” he said.
Inspector General Sellu welcomed UNDP’s support, underscoring the SLP’s commitment to becoming a people-centered police service that prioritizes public safety, integrity, and responsiveness. He outlined ongoing reforms aimed at improving internal systems, strengthening leadership, and enhancing service delivery nationwide.
The meeting is part of broader collaborative efforts between the Government of Sierra Leone and development partners to build strong, accountable institutions that serve citizens’ needs and reinforce national stability. The 2026–2027 reform support is expected to position the SLP as a modern institution capable of meeting evolving security demands while upholding democratic values and the rule of law.
