Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats-SL) has announced a nationwide call for collaboration with bloggers and social media influencers as part of efforts to raise public awareness ahead of the 2026 Decennial Population and Housing Census.

The national statistics agency said it is seeking to partner with Sierra Leonean digital content creators who have strong followings on platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to Stats-SL, the initiative is aimed at taking census messaging beyond traditional media and reaching citizens through online spaces where engagement is highest, especially among young and tech-savvy populations.

The collaboration falls under the “Leh Den Kont You Oh” campaign, which translates to “Be Counted.” Stats SL explained that the campaign is designed to encourage full participation in the census and ensure that every person living within Sierra Leone’s borders is counted.

In its announcement, Stats SL emphasized that working with influencers and bloggers will help bridge the gap between official government data collection efforts and the wider public, particularly younger demographics who rely heavily on digital platforms for information.

The agency has invited interested bloggers and social media influencers to formally express interest in joining the Census2026 movement. Stats SL stated that prospective collaborators can contact the institution directly via WhatsApp or direct call on +232 79 140484 for further engagement and guidance.

Stats-SL also provided updates on the status of the 2026 census preparations. The agency said the census is currently in its preparatory phase, which includes nationwide cartographic mapping and pilot testing activities to ensure accuracy and coverage.

According to Stats SL, Census Night has been scheduled for December 1, 2026, with the main enumeration exercise expected to run from December 2 to December 14, 2026. The agency noted that the census will be the country’s first full decennial population and housing count since 2015.

Statistics Sierra Leone is the official government institution responsible for collecting, analyzing, and disseminating national statistical data. The agency said the 2026 census will provide critical data to support national planning, development policies, and decision-making across key sectors.
