Three young men in Kono District have reportedly lost their lives within a single week due to abuse of the illegal drug, Kush.

The Central Youths Organization (CYO) has expressed grave concern over the situation, which it describes as a serious warning to the entire community.

In a statement released by the organization, CYO called the sudden deaths a “painful loss” and urged the public, particularly parents and guardians, to take immediate action against drug abuse. According to the CYO, the alarming number of fatalities highlights the urgent need for concerted efforts to curb the growing menace of Kush and Tramadol abuse.

CYO’s statement also encouraged parents to engage more with their children, stressing the importance of discussing the dangers of drug use and raising awareness in the community. The organization further called on parents and guardians to collaborate with community leaders in exposing drug dealers who they say are destroying the future of the youth.

“Parents are encouraged to talk to their children, raise awareness, and work with community leaders to expose drug dealers who are destroying the future of our youths,” said the CYO.

The youth-led organization, which has been actively working on anti-drug initiatives, also urged young people to support the movement against drug abuse in Kono. CYO has pledged to continue its efforts to identify and arrest drug dealers, as well as to clean up ghettos within the city, working alongside relevant authorities.

In addition, the organization announced that a rehabilitation center is in the works, aimed at providing support to individuals struggling with drug addiction. The center will help victims recover and rebuild their lives, offering a second chance to those affected by the crisis.

The Central Youths Organization has also appealed to community leaders, civil society organizations (CSOs), and other stakeholders in Kono District to take stronger actions to tackle drug abuse. Specifically, they are calling for the implementation of more effective by-laws that will help protect young people and safeguard their future from the devastating effects of drugs.

“We must all come together to save the youths of Kono District,” the CYO stated, emphasizing the need for unity and collective responsibility in the fight against drug abuse.

The public has been urged to say NO to the use of Kush and Tramadol, and to be vigilant in protecting the community from the increasing threat posed by illegal drugs.
