Edmond Abu Jr., the Executive Director of the Native Consortium and Research Centre and a prominent economic justice activist, is facing a fresh legal crisis.

A formal demand letter from Jabbi Associates, acting on behalf of the National Telecommunications Authority (NatCA), has ordered Abu to pay Le 3,000,000,000 (Three Billion Old Leones) in legal costs within 48 hours or face potential arrest.

The demand stems from a long-running legal battle, Case No. C.C17/18 2018 C. NO 2, which pitted the Native Consortium against telecommunications giants Africell, Orange, and Sierratel, with NatCA (formerly NATCOM) as the fourth defendant.

The case, which began in 2017, saw Abu and 299 other plaintiffs suing the mobile companies over high tariffs and poor service quality. While a judgment delivered by Justice Adrian Fisher on January 16, 2023, initially awarded some damages to the plaintiffs, it also included specific orders regarding legal costs.

According to the recent letter dated February 3, 2026, NatCA is now enforcing “Order 9” of that judgment to reclaim billions in costs.

In a bold response to the ultimatum, Edmond Abu has reportedly instructed his legal team to wait for the 48-hour deadline to expire without making the payment. Speaking to Sierra Network Salone,  Abu expressed his readiness to be arrested, viewing the demand as a continuation of his struggle for citizens’ rights.
