University of Makeni (UNIMAK) on Thursday 12 February 2026 officially launched a three-day Trade Fair aimed at boosting student entrepreneurship and promoting practical business skills among students of the Faculty of Commerce and Management.

The initiative, spearheaded by the university’s Director of Finance and Administration, Fr. Benjamin Sesay, was formally opened in the presence of the Chairman of the Bombali District Council and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Turay.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Fr. Sesay expressed deep honor in hosting the Chairman of the Bombali District Council and Vice Chancellor Prof. Turay for the launch of the event. He described the Trade Fair as a practical academic module designed to give students hands-on experience in business and entrepreneurship.

According to Fr. Sesay, the fair provides a dynamic platform for young entrepreneurs within the university to showcase their business ideas and skills. He said the initiative is intended to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world enterprise, allowing students to apply what they have learned in a practical setting.

He emphasized that the programme reflects the university’s commitment to nurturing innovation and promoting sustainable economic growth through education. Fr. Sesay extended appreciation to partners, exhibitors, and participants for their support in making the event possible.

Through such collaborative efforts, he stated, “we are shaping a generation that does not only learn business, but lives it.”

The three-day Trade Fair is expected to feature exhibitions and business presentations by students, providing them with an opportunity to test their ideas, interact with stakeholders, and gain practical exposure to the realities of entrepreneurship.

The university administration says the initiative forms part of its broader strategy to equip students with relevant skills that prepare them for self-employment and leadership in the business sector.
