Five accused persons have been committed to the High Court following their final appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown on Monday, February 23, 2026.

The accused Gibrill Sheik Dumbuya, Rose Keita, Mayillah Dumbuya, Mafudia Dumbuya, and Foday Suma were arraigned on charges ranging from wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to Sierra Leonean law.

Court records indicate that the incident occurred on October 10, 2022, at No. 12c Thompson Bay, off Wilkinson Road in Freetown, where the accused allegedly assaulted Alimamy Kamara and Marion Sesay, inflicting injuries described by the prosecution as malicious and unlawful.

The principal accused, Gibrill Sheik Dumbuya, 29, is charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and maliciously wounding Alimamy Kamara. The other four accused were jointly charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm against both complainants.

During proceedings, Dumbuya reportedly entered a guilty plea, although no formal plea was recorded on the principal charge. Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, prosecuting, noted that the accused are first-time offenders and urged the court to temper justice with mercy. Defence counsel A. Maddie requested leniency, citing that some of the accused are students and one is an unemployed elderly woman.

After reviewing the prosecution’s evidence, including caution statements and exhibits, Magistrate Fornah found sufficient grounds to commit Gibrill Sheik Dumbuya to the High Court for trial on indictable offences.

The remaining four accused were each fined Le 250,000 or, in default, to serve six months’ imprisonment on each assault count. They were also ordered to pay Le 500,000 each in compensation to the complainants, payable immediately after the fines or custodial terms.

The case involving Dumbuya will now proceed to the High Court for further hearing, while the matters of the other four accused have concluded at the Magistrate Court level.
