Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh has publicly criticized the parliamentary leadership of the All People’s Congress (APC) over their conduct during the confirmation proceedings of Mr. Edmond Sylvester Alpha as Chief Electoral Commissioner.
The remarks followed a parliamentary session convened to debate and ratify Mr. Alpha’s appointment as head of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL). According to reports from the sitting, several APC Members of Parliament were absent or did not participate in the proceedings.
In a public statement issued after the session, Dr. Sengeh described the APC parliamentary leadership’s actions as an “absolute disgrace.” At the same time, he commended two APC Members of Parliament who were present and took part in the process, stating that they demonstrated respect for constitutional and parliamentary procedures.
“The leadership of APC Parliamentarians are an absolute disgrace. Great respect to the 2 APC MPs for respecting our Constitution!” Dr. Sengeh stated.
The confirmation of a Chief Electoral Commissioner is regarded as a significant constitutional process, given the ECSL’s mandate to oversee elections and maintain electoral integrity in Sierra Leone. Parliamentary ratification forms a critical part of that appointment procedure.
While the APC leadership has not yet issued an official response to the Chief Minister’s comments, the development has generated discussion within political circles regarding parliamentary responsibility, opposition engagement, and adherence to constitutional processes during key national appointments

But why is the chief minister constantly trading insults against the APC leadership PPRC immunity?
