Star Sports Academy FC has formally written to the Referees Committee of the Sierra Leone Football Association, raising strong objection over the appointment of Referee Foday Momoh for their upcoming Leone Rock Premier League fixture against East End Lions Football Club.
In a petition addressed to the Referee Manager at the FA’s headquarters on Battery Street in Kingtom, Freetown, the club expressed serious concerns about the referee’s impartiality ahead of the Match Week 24 encounter scheduled for Sunday, 12 April 2026.
According to the letter signed by the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Jusu Tarawally, Referee Momoh previously officiated their Match Week 22 fixture against Kamboi Eagles Football Club in Kenema, where the club alleges that several decisions went against them. The club claims those decisions negatively impacted their performance and progress in the ongoing Leone Rock Premier League season.
Star Sports Academy further argued that assigning the same referee to officiate two of their last three matches is “unprecedented and unacceptable,” suggesting that such a move raises concerns about fairness, especially when other referees are available for selection.
The club also referenced reports alleging that the referee made troubling remarks suggesting bias, a development they say undermines confidence in his neutrality. While the claims remain unverified, the club insists the allegations are serious enough to warrant immediate reconsideration of the appointment.
In reinforcing their concerns, the club recalled a previous encounter involving East End Lions Football Club earlier in the season, where Referee Alhaji Musa Kabia was accused of making controversial decisions, including disallowing what they described as a legitimate goal. That incident reportedly resulted in the referee’s suspension, further heightening the club’s apprehension over officiating standards.
Star Sports Academy FC is now calling on the SLFA to reassign a different referee for the upcoming fixture, emphasizing the need to uphold fairness, integrity, and transparency in the league.
The club concluded its petition by urging the football governing body to take swift and appropriate action to safeguard the credibility of the competition.
