The Sierra Leone Police has stepped up security preparations in Njaluahun Chiefdom ahead of the Paramount Chieftaincy Election scheduled for Aug. 30, 2026, with authorities urging stakeholders to preserve peace.

Regional Police Commander East, Assistant Commissioner of Police Joe Kamanda Bongay, led a strategic security engagement with community leaders, election aspirants and security officials as preparations for the election continue.

The meeting brought together aspirants, including Honourable Wuyatta Songa of Constituency 008, as well as Section and Town Chiefs from Njaluahun Chiefdom.

Members of the Provincial Security Coordinating Committee and the Kailahun District Security Coordinating Committee also participated in the engagement.

According to the police, the discussions centered on maintaining public order, preventing violence and ensuring that the election proceeds peacefully and in accordance with the law.

Stakeholders at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful electoral process and agreed on the importance of cooperation among political, traditional and security actors.

ACP Bongay commended residents of Njaluahun Chiefdom for their cooperation and assured them that the police was prepared to provide security throughout the election.

“The police will take all necessary lawful measures to prevent disruptions and protect the integrity of the vote,” ACP Bongay warned.

He also condemned intimidation, violence and other forms of lawlessness, emphasizing that security personnel would take appropriate lawful action against attempts to disrupt the electoral process.

The engagement forms part of broader security preparations ahead of the Aug. 30 poll, with authorities seeking to ensure that voters and other participants can take part in the process without fear or disruption.

ACP Bongay was accompanied by DSP Edward Kargbo, Regional Coordinator of the Operational Support Division, and DSP Abdulai, the newly transferred Regional Operations Officer East.
