The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority has entered into a formal partnership with the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening road safety and emergency response services across the country.

The agreement was signed at the Authority’s headquarters on Kissy Road in Freetown and outlines a collaborative framework focusing on key areas such as first aid training, coordinated accident response, and nationwide road safety sensitization campaigns. The initiative is expected to improve the effectiveness and timeliness of emergency interventions during road traffic incidents.

Speaking at the ceremony, Executive Director of SLRSA, James Bagie Bio, stated that the partnership aligns with the Authority’s mandate to reduce road traffic accidents and enhance safety standards nationwide.

He noted that working closely with the Red Cross would help ensure quicker medical assistance for victims while also promoting responsible road use through sustained public education efforts.

In his remarks, the Secretary General and CEO of SLRCS, Kpawuru E.T. Sandy, highlighted the organization’s longstanding role in providing humanitarian and emergency health services since its establishment in 1962.

He reaffirmed the Society’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and responding effectively to emergencies.

Mr. Sandy further expressed optimism about the implementation of the agreement, emphasizing that the collaboration would enhance coordination between the two institutions and contribute to safer road usage nationwide.

The MOU represents a strategic step toward building a more integrated road safety and emergency response system in Sierra Leone. It also underscores broader national efforts to reduce road traffic fatalities and improve public safety outcomes.

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to fully implementing the provisions of the agreement and to working jointly toward achieving its objectives.
