The newly transferred Regional Police Chief for the North East, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Esther Mary Kaintor-Dukuray, has commenced a comprehensive familiarisation tour aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness and community relations across the region.

The tour, which began on Tuesday, 7th April 2026, and continued through Monday, 13th April 2026, brought together Local Unit Commanders (LUCs), divisional and station commanders, post commanders, and key community stakeholders within Makeni and its environs.

The initiative is part of AIG Kaintor-Dukuray’s broader commitment to fostering a cordial working relationship with police personnel and enhancing collaboration with community stakeholders. It also seeks to assess the operational environment, evaluate personnel strength, and promote effective service delivery.

During her engagements, AIG Kaintor-Dukuray commended officers for their dedication to maintaining peace, law, and order. She urged personnel to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, discipline, commitment, and punctuality in the discharge of their duties.

She further emphasised the importance of teamwork and unity, noting that effective policing can only be achieved through collective effort and a shared vision. Highlighting the Sierra Leone Police’s shift from a “Force to Service,” she underscored the need for strong community-oriented policing built on mutual respect and cooperation between the police and the public.

Addressing the issue of drug abuse, AIG Kaintor-Dukuray called for intensified efforts in combating the spread and use of substances such as kush, tramadol, and cannabis sativa (commonly known as jamba). She issued a stern warning to personnel against involvement in drug-related activities, stressing that such conduct would not be tolerated.

As part of the tour, the AIG also held meetings with Paramount Chiefs, members of the Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB), and representatives of the Police Wives Association. Discussions centred on strengthening partnerships and enhancing collaboration between the police and the communities they serve.
Stakeholders across the region expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. They pledged their full support to AIG Kaintor-Dukuray, noting her historic role as the first female Assistant Inspector General of Police in the North East Region.
