Residents in parts of Freetown reportedly confronted members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and the Sierra Leone Police following a raid that led to the arrest of several individuals suspected of drug-related activities.
According to reports from local source, the operation was carried out jointly by soldiers and police officers, who moved into the area and detained several people. Authorities allegedly accused some of those arrested of selling drugs, though details of the specific substances involved were not immediately disclosed.
However, the arrests quickly sparked tension within the neighbourhood. Some residents claimed that not all those taken into custody were involved in any illegal activities, insisting that several of the individuals were innocent.
The report indicated that the situation escalated when members of the community confronted the security personnel, challenging the arrests and demanding that those detained should not be taken away. Residents reportedly expressed frustration over what they described as indiscriminate arrests during the operation.
“The operation led to tension, as members of the community confronted the police and soldiers, insisting that those arrested should not be taken away,” a local source familiar with the incident said.
Neither the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces nor the Sierra Leone Police have issued an official statement regarding the incident at the time of reporting. It remains unclear how many people were arrested or whether any charges have been formally filed.
The situation highlights ongoing concerns among residents about law enforcement operations and the need for clear communication between security agencies and local communities during such interventions.
Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
