The Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the East End Police Division, CSP Jenevieve Tity Cowan, has engaged suspected drug users and at-risk youths during a routine patrol aimed at addressing growing concerns over drug abuse and lawlessness in the area.

The engagement took place on Tuesday, 5th May 2026, along Patton Street, a long drainage stretch running from Upper Patton Street to the Moa Wharf community, which has reportedly become a gathering point for youths involved in drug use, particularly kush, with some using the area as shelter.

During the patrol, CSP Cowan and her team interacted directly with the youths, cautioning them about the dangers of drug abuse and its devastating impact on individuals and communities. She urged them to desist from the use of harmful substances, especially kush, which she noted has adversely affected many young people across Sierra Leone.

Some of the youths expressed willingness to abandon drug use and refrain from engaging in unlawful activities.

The patrol team also extended their visit to the Moa Wharf community, where they engaged local stakeholders in discussions centred on crime prevention, community safety, and strengthening collaboration with the police.

This initiative forms part of the Sierra Leone Police’s ongoing efforts to promote community policing, enhance public safety, and curb the menace of drug abuse within communities.
