The Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) has officially announced the passing of its first-ever Chairman, Alieu Badara Mansaray, a foundational figure in Sierra Leone’s modern local governance.
In a formal condolence message issued by the Council management on behalf of current Chairman Kasho J. Holland-Cole, the WARDC expressed “profound sadness and a heavy heart” over the loss of a leader who served with “dedication and distinction.”
Mr. Mansaray’s tenure began at a pivotal moment in the nation’s history. Following the re-establishment of local councils in 2004, he was tasked with leading WARDC during its most vulnerable and formative years.
He is being remembered today as a pioneer whose leadership laid the essential groundwork for the Council’s growth. The current administration of WARDC emphasized that Mansaray’s commitment to public service remains a “lasting legacy” that continues to inspire the current generation of councilors and staff.
“His contributions to decentralization and national development will never be forgotten,” the Council stated. “He played a vital role in strengthening local governance and championing the welfare of communities.”
The Chairman, Councillors, Chief Administrator, and the entire management of WARDC extended their deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the late former Chairman.
The Council concluded its tribute by honoring the profound impact he had on the district: “May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may his legacy continue to live on in the hearts of the people he served.”
