The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security, with support from Welthungerhilfe (WHH), has today commenced a two-day District Agriculture Master Plan Development Workshop in Pujehun District.
The workshop, held at the Pujehun District Council Conference Hall, brings together key stakeholders, including government officials, the Pujehun District Council, NGOs, civil society organisations, traditional leaders, persons with disabilities, women’s groups, farmers, and the media.
Representing the WHH Country Director, Area Manager Southeast, Santigie Kamanda Kanu, emphasised the importance of collaboration in supporting government development efforts. He noted that both the Ministry of Agriculture and the District Council remain key partners in WHH’s interventions across the district
He added that the workshop is part of a consortium project being implemented in Pujehun, Tonkolili, and Kenema Districts, with funding support from Irish Aid.

Also speaking, the Head of the Irish Aid Project in Pujehun, Hawa Bockarie, said the District Agriculture Master Plan will focus on strengthening food and nutrition security, especially among vulnerable rural households. She noted that the plan will address climate-related challenges, improve resilience, and promote sustainable and inclusive agricultural development.
On behalf of government, the Director of Extension at the Ministry of Agriculture, Yayah Mansaray, welcomed the initiative and described it as a major step toward supporting the national Feed Salone Initiative. He added that Pujehun is the first district to undertake such a comprehensive agriculture master plan, describing the district as a key hub for food production.
The District Agriculture Officer, Lucy Coker, expressed appreciation to WHH for supporting the development of a three-year agriculture master plan for the district.

During the workshop, participants were divided into groups to analyze key areas including production systems, climate risks, land use patterns, crop marketing, agricultural infrastructure, nutrition, and the availability of processing and storage facilities.
The workshop is expected to produce a strategic roadmap to guide agricultural development and improve food security in Pujehun District.
