The Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Edmond Sylvester Alpha, on Thursday, May 21, 2026, led a delegation of fellow Commissioners on a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Office of National Security at its headquarters on Tower Hill in Freetown as part of ongoing preparations for the country’s 2028 Multi-Tier Elections.

According to ECSL, the engagement focused on strengthening collaboration between the electoral management body and national security institutions to ensure a peaceful, credible, and inclusive electoral process.

Discussions during the meeting centred on strengthening election security frameworks, enhancing risk assessment and early warning systems, improving inter-agency coordination, addressing emerging digital threats to the electoral process, and protecting citizens’ democratic rights and participation.

Speaking during the engagement, Edmond Sylvester Alpha reaffirmed ECSL’s commitment to working closely with security stakeholders ahead of the elections.

The visit forms part of ECSL’s broader strategic consultations and institutional engagements aimed at reinforcing public confidence in the electoral process and strengthening national preparedness ahead of the 2028 polls.

The ECSL delegation and officials of the Office of National Security also underscored the importance of sustained cooperation in safeguarding electoral integrity and maintaining national stability throughout the electoral cycle.

The Electoral Commission stated that continued collaboration among democratic institutions and security agencies remains essential to building a transparent and trusted electoral system for all Sierra Leoneans.
