Samura Kamara, the 2023 presidential candidate of the All People’s Congress (APC), has responded to a letter issued by the party’s Elders Council, which called for reconciliation between him and the party leadership.
In his response, Kamara stated that while he remains willing to participate in genuine efforts aimed at restoring the APC to its core democratic ideals and positioning it to win future elections, he believes many party members — as well as the wider public — feel deeply disappointed and betrayed by certain key stakeholders within the party, particularly the APC National Executive.
He accused the party’s leadership of engaging in what he described as regressive actions, unholy public utterances, and deceitful pronouncements. According to Kamara, the conduct of the APC National Executive amounts to “anti-party activities” as defined under the party’s constitution, whether intentionally or otherwise.
Kamara further stressed that he, along with other advocates for electoral justice and democratic restoration within the APC, has no agenda beyond correcting what he described as the
“stolen results” of the 24 June 2023 multi-tier elections. He said leading this cause is both his sacred duty and an act of selfless service to the people of Sierra Leone.
“The restoration and sustainability of our democracy in Sierra Leone is a task that must be done now and carried infinitely into the future,” he stated.
He confirmed his willingness to attend any proposed meetings organized by the Elders Council, particularly those focused on the 24 June 2023 presidential election and its aftermath, including discussions surrounding the implementation of the Agreement for National Unity and the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee.
Kamara also said any such engagement should address what he referred to as the “elephant in the room” — the growing erosion of public trust and confidence in the APC National Executive, as well as concerns over the party’s future management within Sierra Leone’s multi-party democratic system.
While expressing openness to dialogue, he noted that he may initially send a delegation with full powers to represent him during the early stages of any engagement.
He concluded by reaffirming that he shares the Elders Council’s earnest desire to strengthen party unity and address the pressing challenges facing the APC.
