The Teaching Service Commission (TSC), in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU), has issued a final notice to all teachers currently suspended from the government payroll to report for re-verification.

According to the announcement, affected teachers must present themselves at the TSC Headquarters in Freetown no later than Monday, 22 June 2026, to complete the verification process and facilitate possible reinstatement.

The move follows a nationwide verification exercise conducted in July 2025, during which 4,852 teachers were suspended from the payroll. With the intervention of the SLTU, 3,475 teachers have since been successfully re-verified and reinstated. However, 1,381 teachers remain unverified, prompting the latest call for immediate action.

Authorities have warned that failure to comply with the directive will result in permanent removal from the payroll.
Required Documentation

Teachers reporting for verification are required to present the following documents:

  • Authorisation letter from the Head of School
  • Time book
  • Valid academic and professional certificates
  • National ID or NASSIT card
  • The verification exercise will be conducted by the Payroll Steering Committee, comprising representatives from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), the Teaching Service Commission (TSC), the Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU), and other key education stakeholders.

Officials have also issued a stern warning against fraud, noting that any individual found impersonating or submitting falsified documents will be apprehended and prosecuted, with the Union declining to offer representation to offenders.

The SLTU further acknowledged that some teachers on the payroll may have resigned, abandoned their posts, or passed away, emphasizing that such names must be removed to ensure integrity within the system. The Union reiterated its support for the government’s ongoing efforts to clean the payroll, describing the process as a necessary step toward creating opportunities for the recruitment of qualified teachers.

The TSC and SLTU are urging all affected teachers to act promptly to avoid losing their positions permanently.
