The Government of Sierra Leone is set to introduce a digital travel portal aimed at strengthening the monitoring and surveillance of travelers entering and leaving the country.
Speaking during the Government Weekly Press Conference held on Tuesday 26 May 2026 at the Miatta Civic Center, software developer Michael Kamara described the Sierra Leone Travel Portal as a modern digital system designed to track travelers’ movement history and health status.
According to Kamara, the platform will capture travel and health information covering the previous 21 days for passengers using air, sea and land routes.

He explained that the portal forms part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen public health surveillance and improve emergency preparedness.
Kamara further disclosed that the system is currently free of charge and is expected to go live in the coming weeks.
Health officials said the introduction of the digital portal is intended to improve the country’s ability to identify and respond quickly to potential public health threats linked to international travel.
