The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) officially unveiled newly appointed Leone Stars head coach, Didier Gomes Da Rosa, to football fans during Sierra Leone’s FIFA international friendly against Liberia at the Southern Arena in Bo.
The French tactician was announced as the new head coach of the national team last week and is expected to formally begin work after the return-leg friendly against Liberia.
Speaking during his unveiling ceremony, Gomes Da Rosa outlined his ambitions for Sierra Leone, stressing his determination to guide the Leone Stars to qualification for the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be hosted in East Africa.

The 56-year-old coach also stressed the importance of collaboration with local coaches, promising to work closely with Sierra Leonean technical staff to develop the national team and strengthen football structures across the country.
Gomes Da Rosa brings extensive African football experience, having managed clubs and national teams across the continent, including stints with Coton Sport of Cameroon, Horoya AC of Guinea, Simba SC of Tanzania, Al-Merrikh of Sudan, Mauritania, and Botswana. He notably led Botswana to qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations before leaving the role in October 2024.

His most recent coaching assignments include Libya’s Al Ahli Tripoli, Qatar’s Al Khor, and Saudi Arabian side Al Adalah. During his managerial career, Gomes Da Rosa has won league and cup titles in Cameroon, Guinea, Tanzania, and Jordan, earning a reputation as one of the most experienced coaches working in African football.
