Sierra Leone’s senior men’s national football team, the Leone Stars, have dropped three places to 122nd in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking released last Thursday.

The slide from 119th to 122nd follows a 3-1 defeat to Liberia on Tuesday at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Monrovia. Liberia secured the victory with an early strike from Sebastine Teclar and a brace from Ayouba Kosiah, while John Edward Keister’s men scored a late consolation goal.

Despite the positional drop, Sierra Leone lost just one ranking point, moving from 1,149 to 1,148 points. The shift underscores the tight competition among nations outside the global top 100, where minimal point changes cause significant movement in the standings.

At the top of the global rankings, Argentina reclaimed the world number one spot for the first time since July 2025, overtaking France. Spain remains in second place, while Morocco climbed to a record seventh place to become Africa’s highest-ranked nation.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking will be released on July 20, providing the Leone Stars their next opportunity to regain ground in the global standings.
