Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has outlined key reforms and development achievements recorded by the Government of Sierra Leone over the past eight years, focusing on progress in the energy, trade, and healthcare sectors during the Civic Day Series held in London.
Addressing a packed audience at Westminster on Thursday, June 18, 2026, the Vice President highlighted government efforts to strengthen critical sectors of the economy while engaging members of the Sierra Leonean diaspora on national development issues.
Speaking on the energy sector, Dr. Jalloh emphasized Sierra Leone’s successful qualification for the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact, which secured a grant of approximately US$480 million aimed at improving the country’s energy infrastructure.

He noted that the grant would significantly support ongoing efforts to expand electricity generation, transmission, and distribution across the country. The Vice President also pointed to growing foreign investment in the sector, including plans by Nant Power to develop a major energy facility expected to contribute to addressing electricity challenges by 2027.
According to Dr. Jalloh, recent investments in the energy sector have already yielded positive results, with national electricity access increasing from 17 percent to 36 percent. He also referenced the commissioning of a 40-megawatt solar power project in Newton by President Julius Maada Bio as part of broader efforts to improve access to sustainable energy.
On economic development and trade, the Vice President highlighted reforms introduced through the National Investment Board, which he said are helping to facilitate investment and create a more business-friendly environment. He disclosed that the manufacturing sector alone has attracted more than US$800 million in investment, contributing to job creation and increased economic activity.

Dr. Jalloh stated that the government remains focused on expanding industrial growth, creating employment opportunities, and enhancing domestic revenue generation through strategic investments and policy reforms.
The Vice President also commended President Bio’s leadership, noting that despite global economic challenges, the government has continued to implement measures aimed at maintaining stability and ensuring the availability of essential commodities.
During the interactive session, participants raised questions on a range of issues, including healthcare, economic management, and land reforms. Dr. Jalloh responded to the concerns while providing updates on government initiatives in those sectors.
He further encouraged members of the Sierra Leonean diaspora to actively engage in national development efforts by investing in the country and contributing to its socio-economic transformation.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education as part of its Civic Day Series initiative, which seeks to strengthen engagement between government officials and Sierra Leoneans living abroad.
Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, described the London engagement as the first edition of the Civic Day Series in the United Kingdom and disclosed plans to extend similar engagements to Sierra Leonean communities in other countries.
The Civic Day Series continues to serve as a platform for government officials to provide updates on national development priorities, promote transparency, and encourage greater participation from citizens both at home and abroad.
