Sierra Leone’s Chief Justice, Honourable Justice Komba Kamanda, has joined fellow African Chief Justices and senior judicial leaders at the 3rd Africa Chief Justices’ Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Summit, held in Nairobi, Kenya.
During the summit, Chief Justice Kamanda co-chaired one of the event’s most significant sessions, which convened both serving and retired Chief Justices from across the continent to deliberate on the future of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Alternative Justice Systems (AJS) in Africa. In his remarks, he underscored the vital role of ADR as a strategic mechanism to expedite the delivery of justice and enhance access to justice for citizens.
The summit brought together heads of judiciaries, judges, legal practitioners, academics, policymakers, and key justice sector stakeholders to explore innovative approaches to strengthening ADR frameworks and improving access to justice across the continent.
The initiative fosters collaboration among courts and promotes the adoption of innovative dispute resolution mechanisms that complement formal judicial processes.
“These engagements underscore our collective resolve to ensure the timely disposal of cases and to adopt a more practical, inclusive, and harmonised approach to dispute resolution,” Chief Justice Kamanda stated.
The participation of Sierra Leone’s delegation highlights the country’s active engagement in continental efforts to modernise justice systems, strengthen judicial cooperation, and promote accessible, efficient, and people-centred justice across Africa.
