Mighty Blackpool Chairman Rodney Michael has called on FIFA to investigate referee Sulaiman Kamara following controversial officiating in the FA Cup final against East End Lions.
Michael described the refereeing as the worst he has seen in 40 years, claiming a legitimate equalizing goal was wrongly ruled offside. He said video footage clearly shows the goal should have stood.
“The officiating was very suspect,” Michael wrote on social media. “This is why African football struggles.”
He said the controversial decisions nearly sparked a riot among players and supporters, which he helped to prevent by calming frustrated players and fans.
“The officiating last night nearly caused a riot. Luckily as Chairman of Mighty Blackpool I managed the players frustration and eventually fans too. This ref should be banned,” Michael stated.
In protest, Mighty Blackpool players boycotted the medal presentation and rejected the NLE 100,000 runners-up prize, arguing the match’s integrity had been compromised.
Michael also questioned how the referee from Port Loko became a FIFA official.
East End Lions won the final by a single goal.
The Sierra Leone Football Association has not yet issued an official response to the incident.
