Sierra Leone is set to host the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), with President Julius Maada Bio, who currently serves as Chairman of the regional bloc, expected to preside over the high-level gathering.

The summit is scheduled for 19 July 2026 at the newly established Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre, marking a significant moment for Sierra Leone’s role in advancing regional cooperation and integration.

Ahead of the Heads of State summit, Sierra Leone will host a series of ECOWAS statutory meetings in Freetown from 12–17 July 2026, bringing together ministers, senior ECOWAS officials, government representatives, delegates and other stakeholders from across West Africa.

The meetings will include the 39th Meeting of the Administration and Finance Committee, scheduled for 12–14 July at the Bintumani New Hall, followed by the 56th Ordinary Session of the Mediation and Security Council at Ministerial Level on 15 July.

Also on 15 July, ECOWAS officials will hold a joint Mediation and Security Council meeting focused on the Compact of the Future, while the 96th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers will take place from 16–17 July.

As part of activities leading to the summit, President Bio will on 18 July 2026 officially commission the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre and the ECOWAS Logistics Depot. The conference centre is expected to strengthen Sierra Leone’s capacity to host major international engagements, while the logistics depot will support ECOWAS’ operational and institutional activities.

The Government of Sierra Leone says the hosting of the ECOWAS summit and related meetings reflects the country’s growing role within the regional body and highlights President Bio’s commitment to promoting regional integration, peace and security, and shared economic development across West Africa.
