The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has continued its Park-to-Park Road Safety Sensitization Campaign at the Waterloo 55 Lorry Park, reinforcing its efforts to reduce road traffic crashes during the rainy season through public education and engagement with commercial drivers.

The campaign brought together commercial drivers and transport stakeholders to promote safe driving practices, with particular emphasis on the increased risks associated with wet and slippery roads during the rains.

Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Executive Director of SLRSA, Mr. Daniel C. Kaitibe urged drivers to exercise greater caution while driving during the rainy season. He called on motorists to reduce speed, maintain safe following distances, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, avoid dangerous overtaking, refrain from using mobile phones while driving, and comply with all traffic rules and regulations.

Mr. Kaitibe stressed that road safety is a collective responsibility, noting that drivers have a critical role to play in safeguarding the lives of passengers, pedestrians, and other road users. He encouraged commercial drivers to adopt defensive driving techniques to help prevent avoidable road crashes.

Responding on behalf of the Motor Drivers’ Union, the Union’s Vice President, Mr. Momodu Koroma, reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to supporting SLRSA’s road safety initiatives.

He commended the Authority for sustaining regular engagement with commercial drivers, describing the sensitization programme as an important platform for reinforcing responsible driving practices and strengthening safety awareness within the transport sector.

As part of the engagement, participants received training on the legal responsibilities of drivers, facilitated by the Manager of Safety and Enforcement, Mr. Augustine A. K. Lansana, while Mr. Daniel C. Kaitibe led a separate session on defensive driving techniques aimed at equipping drivers with practical skills for safer road use.

The Park-to-Park Road Safety Sensitization Campaign forms part of SLRSA’s broader public education strategy to promote a culture of responsible driving across Sierra Leone.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to extending the campaign to transport hubs nationwide as it continues working with transport unions, commercial drivers, and other stakeholders to improve road safety and reduce traffic-related accidents.
