Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Barrie, has hosted the Director of Asia, Africa and the Pacific Political and Negotiations Affairs at the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Al-Ibrahim Hussain Omar, during a courtesy visit at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Riyadh aimed at strengthening relations and expanding cooperation.

Welcoming the GCC official to the Chancery, Ambassador Barrie reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to deepening engagement with the Gulf Cooperation Council and promoting the country’s investment opportunities under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio.

The Ambassador highlighted the government’s Big Five Game Changers development agenda, which prioritises agricultural transformation through the Feed Salone initiative, human capital development in education and health, youth employment, infrastructure expansion, and technology and innovation to drive economic growth and improve public service delivery.

He assured the visiting official that the Embassy stands ready to work closely with the GCC to advance mutually beneficial partnerships. Ambassador Barrie also designated Sierra Leone’s Deputy Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Abdul Aziz Turay, as the Mission’s focal point for engagement with the regional organisation.

He noted that closer cooperation with the GCC would provide Sierra Leone with greater opportunities to engage its six member states in areas including trade, investment and economic development.

Speaking during the meeting, GCC Director Al-Ibrahim Hussain Omar thanked Ambassador Barrie and the Embassy staff for the warm reception and expressed the Council’s interest in expanding cooperation with Sierra Leone.

He said the GCC continues to increase its engagement across Africa through foreign direct investment, infrastructure financing, agriculture and the development of critical mineral resources, adding that he looked forward to working with the Sierra Leone Embassy to strengthen cooperation and identify new areas of partnership.

Hussain Omar, a national of the Sultanate of Oman, also expressed his willingness to support efforts aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and fostering stronger links between Sierra Leone and Gulf countries.

Deputy Ambassador Abdul Aziz Turay welcomed the prospects for closer collaboration with the GCC, stating that Sierra Leone offers significant opportunities for investment and partnership across several strategic sectors.

The meeting reflects the shared commitment of both sides to strengthening diplomatic engagement and promoting economic cooperation between Sierra Leone and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
