The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sierra Leone has provided technology hardware to the country’s Foreign Service Academy, aiming to strengthen digital learning and the training of future diplomats.
The support is intended to improve the Academy’s ability to develop curricula, conduct research and incorporate digital tools into diplomatic education, according to UNDP Sierra Leone.
The initiative comes as Sierra Leone seeks to strengthen the institutions responsible for preparing foreign service practitioners to operate in an increasingly interconnected international environment.
UNDP said the equipment will give trainees and the Academy greater access to technological resources that can support learning and research.
The development program described the intervention as part of its broader support for institutional strengthening and digital transformation in Sierra Leone.
The Foreign Service Academy is designed to train foreign service practitioners in diplomacy and related disciplines. Government has previously described the institution as a centre of excellence for diplomatic training in Sierra Leone and the wider region.
UNDP said the intervention also reflects its commitment to supporting capable and resilient public institutions and strengthening the capacity of public servants to represent Sierra Leone effectively.
The agency linked the initiative to Sustainable Development Goal 16, which focuses on peace, justice and strong institutions.
The technology handover therefore positions digital capacity as an increasingly important component of diplomatic preparation, with the Academy expected to use the equipment to support training, research and curriculum development.
