The UK Government has opened applications for its prestigious Chevening Scholarships, offering eligible Sierra Leoneans and other prospective applicants the opportunity to pursue fully funded master’s degrees at universities across the United Kingdom.
Applications opened on August 4, 2026, and will close on October 6, 2026.
The Chevening Scholarship programme is aimed at identifying and supporting emerging leaders with the potential to make a meaningful impact in their communities and contribute to addressing global challenges.
Successful applicants will receive access to fully funded postgraduate study in the UK, alongside opportunities to build professional networks, gain international experience and develop connections with other future leaders from around the world.
The programme is seeking candidates who can demonstrate strong leadership, influencing and networking skills through compelling, evidence-based examples, as well as a clear commitment to creating sustainable change.
Emma Hennessey, Head of the Scholarships Unit at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), said the programme is looking for exceptional individuals who are prepared to work with the UK towards building a more resilient, prosperous and sustainable future.
She also encouraged applications from under-represented groups, noting that Chevening is committed to developing a diverse and inclusive community of global future leaders.
According to Hennessey, scholars are selected not only for their achievements but also for their leadership potential, ability to build meaningful connections and commitment to creating lasting impact in their communities and globally.
Since the programme began in 1983, more than 60,000 professionals have advanced their careers through Chevening, underscoring the UK Government’s commitment to developing future leaders and strengthening international partnerships.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to familiarise themselves with Chevening’s vision, eligibility requirements and application resources before submitting their applications.
Applications can be submitted through the official Chevening application platform, while additional information on eligibility and scholarship requirements is available through Chevening’s resources.
