A dispute over the position of Chiefdom Speaker in Nimikoro Chiefdom has been escalated to district and provincial authorities following a petition alleging the role was filled without following required legal procedures.
In a complaint dated Aug. 21, 2026, Chief Sahr Abdulai Komassie says he formally asked the Senior District Officer in Kono to review what he describes as his unlawful replacement during a chiefdom meeting held Aug. 20.
The petition alleges that Paramount Chief Aiah Delton Bona presided over a meeting at which Chief Sarh Mohamed Korgba was introduced as the new Chiefdom Speaker. Komassie disputes the decision, insisting he has not resigned, been suspended or removed through any formal process.
He maintains that he remains “substantive Chiefdom Speaker,” stating he is fit, has not been subject to any disciplinary proceedings and continues to carry out his responsibilities.
In his filing, Komassie references Sections 22 and 25(2) of Sierra Leone’s Chieftaincy Act of 2009, which govern the appointment and removal of chiefdom officials, arguing that the procedures outlined in law were not followed.
The complaint also raises concerns about conduct within the chiefdom leadership structure, with Komassie alleging that he previously reported related issues to authorities, though no details of those earlier complaints were provided in the petition.
He further claims the developments have heightened concerns about his personal safety within the chiefdom.
Komassie is urging the Provincial Secretary of the Eastern Province and the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs to investigate the circumstances surrounding the announcement and determine whether due process was observed.
He is also seeking recognition of his continued status pending the outcome of any official inquiry.
