Popular sports journalist Bei Santigie T Kamara has expressed concern over reports that some players invited to the national team are leaving training sessions to participate in Inter-Community League matches.
According to Kamara, players who receive a national team call-up should demonstrate a high level of discipline, commitment and responsibility. He stressed that once a player is selected for national team training, his priority should be the team and preparations for upcoming international assignments.
Kamara believes the issue is one that national team head coach Didier Da Rosa may need to address, ensuring that players fully understand the seriousness of a national team call-up and comply with the standards and expectations associated with representing the country.
He noted that while Inter-Community League matches may provide opportunities for players to remain active, players called up to the national team should not be roaming around or secretly leaving camp to participate in such competitions.
“Sadly, some players are reportedly sneaking away from national team training to participate in Inter-Community League matches. That, in my view, should not be encouraged,” Kamara stated.
His comments have renewed discussion about discipline, commitment and professionalism among players representing the national team, particularly during periods of preparation for international competitions.
