The Fourah Bay College Muslim Jamaat has made an urgent appeal to former members, students and other Muslim stakeholders of the country for the reconstruction of the mosque.
Speaking to Sierraloaded, the Jamaat’s former Vice President, Ibrahim Yajoh said that the mosque is in a bad condition at current.
Yajoh said that the initial plea was for the 500 capacity campus mosque to be renovated but the increasing number of Muslim students and the dilapidation of the structure have prompted the Jamaat’s executive to opt for a reconstruction.
“We have had countless promises over the years from Muslim stakeholders but non have come to fruition,” Yajoh said.

He added that they have had promises from Sogefel, the Guinean company that renovated the whole campus but that fell short for reasons unrelated to the Jamaat.
He said that the most recent promise was made last year from Sheik Mohamed Kamara popularly known as Jagaban but that he is are yet to actualise what he said.
“Presently, more people pray outside than inside the mosque especially during Jumu’at (Friday) prayers,” he said.
The Jamaat, recently, has sent invitation letters to present and past members to officially launch the “expansion and reconstruction project” on the 11th March this year.
The Jamaat’s Secretariat said that the project will create more space for worshippers and also for the hosting of Islamic event on campus.
Fourah Bay College has over 10,000 students with a significant Muslim population but the mosque could not accommodate worshippers over the years.
