A total of 78 Sierra Leonean pilgrims from the diaspora have arrived safely in Madinah ahead of the 2025 Hajj.

The pilgrims have been checked into Karam Alkhayr Hotel, located a short walking distance from Masjid Nabawi, one of Islam’s holiest sites.

They are now waiting for other groups to join them, including 600 more pilgrims set to travel from Freetown International Airport on May 28 and 29. Others from the United States, Europe, and Australia will arrive on different dates.

While in Madinah, the pilgrims will pray at Masjid Nabawi, the mosque of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and take part in Ziyarah a visit to the Prophet’s tomb. They will also visit Masjid Quba, the first mosque built by the Prophet after his journey from Makkah. It is said that praying two Rakat in this mosque is equal to one Umrah.

Pilgrims will also tour other historical locations in Madinah, including the graves of early Islamic martyrs and other important figures.

This year, a total of 2,000 pilgrims from Sierra Leone, both home and abroad, are expected to take part in the Hajj. Among them are 100 pilgrims who received support through the Saudi Royal Hajj scholarship.

The 2025 Hajj will take place from June 4 to June 9, corresponding to the 8th to the 12th of Dhul-Hijjah 1446 in the Islamic calendar.
