Three Sierra Leoneans who drowned off the high seas of Greece while traveling on Boat from Turkey to Greece had been laid to rest in Turkey.
It is with a heavy heart and deep sorrow that the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Turkey expresses heartfelt condolences to the Sierra Leonean Community in Turkey on the devastating death of three Sierra Leonean nationals, which sad event took place in Izmir, Turkey on 19th March 2021.
The deceased were drowned off the high seas of Greece, as they attempted to travel from Turkey to Greece on a tiny rubber boat. Their interment was held in Izmir, Turkey on 10th June 2021.
The Embassy is saddened by this event and stands with the Community during this period of grief. The thoughts and sympathy of the Ambassador and the entire staff of the Embassy goes out to the bereaved families. It is a difficult period and the Embassy would like to wish them strengths to cope with the loss.
The Embassy would like to reiterate the perilous situations involved in traveling by sea as well as the arduous desert crossings from one country to another. It therefore wishes to urge all Sierra Leonean nationals in Turkey to desist from such act.
