As today, 27th February 2025, marks the deadline for the submission of assessment scores for NPSE and BECE, the Civil Rights Coalition (CRC) has urged parents to take immediate action by confirming their children’s assessment records.
On Tuesday, 25th February, 2025, the CRC launched a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of the Continuous Assessment Score (CASS) system and to ensure that students do not miss critical exams due to administrative issues.
The CASS program, implemented by the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), was designed to allow evaluations based on continuous assessment and final exams.
Reportedly, the approach aimed to provide a more comprehensive view of a student’s academic performance; however, stakeholders commented that challenges in awareness and information dissemination have left some students at risk.
CRC Coordinator Alphonso Manley has emphasized the need for parents to verify their children’s assessment submissions as earlier as possible. “We want to ensure that every child has a fair chance to sit for important exams. Parents must check with the schools to confirm that assessment scores have been submitted,” he stated.
School principals are encouraged to assist parents by showing them their children’s academic records. This collaboration is deemed critical, advising parents to avoid any last-minute surprises that could affect students’ eligibility for exams like the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Community leader, Chief Ya Alimamy Fofana also highlighted the importance of parental involvement. “Many families don’t have access to the latest updates about education, so it’s vital for parents to take the initiative and ensure everything is in order,” she said.
The CRC’s campaign has aimed to reach all major markets and community hubs in Freetown, urging every parent to prioritize the task. With the deadline upon us, the organization emphasizes that timely checks can prevent any disruptions in students’ educational journeys.
As today marks the date (27th February) for the submission of assessments for the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), stakeholders strongly encouraged parents to check their children’s assessment records immediately to avoid unnecessary complications in their education journey.
