The Ministriy of Technical and Higher Education and the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education have concluded a mid-term review of the Education Sector Plan (ESP) at Saphyre Court in Freetown.

The ESP which was launched in 2022 will end in 2026 as a document geared towards guiding the education system in the country.

Speaking during the review, Musu Gorvie, Chief Education Officer said the purpose of the review was to assess the successes and challenges they encountered and how they can proffer solutions for effectiveness and efficiency in the next 18 months when the ESP would have been completed. Gorvie stressed the importance of honesty from participants during the review.

The mid-term review concentrated on learning how partners were implementing activities as outlined in the ESP.

The Parliamentary Representative from the Oversight Committee on MBSSE, Hon. Alpha Madie Jabbie also echoed the importance of the review as a stepping stone on taking action on pending objectives. He informed the gathering of a new survey already rolled out that will be made public after the completion of a national review of senior secondary schools.

Meanwhile, Sorie I. Sesay from the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) said that funding has affected the achievement of key objectives in the ESP. He mentioned the importance of licensing examination as a good method to screen teachers. He also stated that this year saw the recruiting of 3,500 teachers with 2,000 being new hires while 1,500 were replacements.
