The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has issued a stern warning to all Heads of Senior Secondary Schools, reminding them of their obligation to upload all cleared candidates for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) by the February 28, 2026 deadline.

In a public notice dated February 25, 2026, the Ministry announced that it has completed the verification and clearance of eligible candidates for the WASSCE School Candidates Examination. All school heads are hereby “strongly reminded” that any legitimate candidate who has been officially cleared by the Ministry must be uploaded on the WAEC Batch Registration System (BRS) within the stipulated timeline .

The Ministry has outlined strict consequences for any head of school who fails to comply with the directive.

“Any Head of School who fails to upload a duly cleared candidate will be held personally responsible for such omission,” the notice states.

Where affected candidates are compelled to register for the Private WASSCE, the full cost of registration shall be borne by the head of school responsible for the failure to upload.

In addition to financial liability, defaulting heads of school will face “serious administrative and disciplinary penalties” in line with the Education Act 2023 and the Teaching Service Commission Code of Conduct.

The Ministry emphasized that this sanction shall apply “even in cases where such candidates may later be allowed to sit the examination in their schools in subsequent years”.

Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, also issued a statement drawing urgent attention to the importance of compliance with the cleared candidates’ upload requirements.

“Once again, I wish to draw the urgent attention of all Heads of Senior Secondary Schools to the importance of complying with our cleared candidates’ upload requirements,” Minister Sackey wrote.

He confirmed that the Ministry has completed the verification and clearance of eligible candidates for the forthcoming examinations administered by the West African Examinations Council.

“All duly cleared candidates must be uploaded on the WAEC Batch Registration System (BRS) on or before 28th February 2026,” he stated .

The Minister described failure to upload cleared candidates as “a serious administrative breach” and warned that any head of school responsible for such omissions will be held personally liable, including bearing any costs incurred should affected pupils be forced to register privately .

“This directive is intended to protect our pupils and safeguard government’s investment in education,” Minister Sackey said. “I therefore urge all school leaders across Sierra Leone to ensure strict compliance and immediately address any outstanding upload issues. Our children’s future must not be compromised”.

The Ministry treats this matter with “the highest level of seriousness,” as failure to upload eligible candidates undermines government investment in education and unfairly disadvantages pupils
