Subject: Urgent Release of Withheld 2023 WASSCE Examination Results

Dear Honorable Minister,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to request your attention and consideration regarding the release of the withheld results for the 2023 examinations in Sierra Leone. As an education expert with a deep understanding of the challenges faced by students, parents, and the education system, I would like to present four vital reasons why releasing these results is of utmost importance:

Firstly. Academic Fairness and Equity: Withholding examination results creates a sense of inequality and unfairness within the education system. Students deserve to receive their results promptly, as this enables them to plan their future educational endeavors effectively. Delaying the release of results targets not only those who might have performed poorly, but also those who worked hard and excelled in their examinations. By releasing all the withheld results, you will contribute significantly to promoting a fair and equitable academic environment.

Secondly. Psychological Well-being of Students: The uncertainty surrounding withheld exam results can have severe psychological effects on students. This period of anticipation, stress, and anxiety negatively impacts their mental well-being, hindering their ability to focus on future academic pursuits or career choices. By releasing the results, you will provide essential closure to the students, allowing them to move forward and focus on their personal growth and development.

Thirdly. Institutional Transparency and Accountability: The release of the withheld results will not only benefit the students but also enhance the credibility and transparency of the education system. The process of withholding results should be justified by valid and transparent reasons. By releasing the results, you will uphold the principles of accountability, demonstrating that the education system operates with integrity and fairness. This action will restore stakeholders’ trust in the system and signify your commitment to fostering a transparent and efficient educational environment.

Lastly. Long-Term Impact on Education: The timely release of examination results is crucial for the successful implementation of educational policies and strategies. Withheld results hinder accurate data collection and analysis, making it challenging to assess the effectiveness of educational programs at various levels. By releasing the withheld results, you will enable policymakers, educators, and other stakeholders to make informed decisions based on comprehensive data. This will contribute to the continuous improvement of the education system in Sierra Leone, ensuring the best possible outcomes for future generations.

In conclusion, the release of the 2023 withheld examination results in Sierra Leone is vital for academic fairness, student well-being, institutional transparency, and the long-term improvement of the education sector. I humbly request your urgent attention to this matter and kindly ask you to consider the compelling reasons presented. Your prompt action in releasing the results will positively impact the lives of many students and contribute to the overall growth and development of Sierra Leone’s education system.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I remain at your disposal for any further information or assistance you may require.

Yours sincerely,

Mohamed J Sow.
