Jamaican reggae star Christopher Martin has cancelled his upcoming performance in the United States, citing injuries sustained during a dramatic stage collapse in Sierra Leone last week.
Martin was scheduled to headline the Treasure Beach Food, Rum & Reggae Benefit Festival this Sunday, December 7, 2025. However, following a medical evaluation, the “Big Deal” singer announced he has been ordered by doctors to take “complete rest.”
The cancellation stems from an incident that occurred on Friday, November 28, during the One Nation Reggae Festival at the Radisson Blu Garden in Freetown. While performing, a section of the stage collapsed beneath Martin due to a technical failure.
In a statement released to his fans, Martin confirmed that the fall resulted in injuries requiring medical attention.
“During my performance in Sierra Leone, I sustained some injuries after a technical issue caused me to fall through the stage,” Martin wrote. “I am currently still undergoing medical evaluation… I’m truly grateful it wasn’t worse.”
He expressed regret at missing the benefit festival, stating, “This was a really hard decision because I never want to disappoint my supporters… But right now, I have to prioritize healing so I can return to the stage at full strength.”
The incident in Freetown prompted an immediate response from local organizers and government officials. Cribs International, the company contracted to provide services for the One Nation Reggae Festival, issued a public apology on December 1, taking full responsibility for the “technical malfunction.”
“We understand the concern it caused and we take responsibility for this technical challenge that happened during our involvement,” the company stated, adding that they have implemented corrective measures to prevent future occurrences.
Before Martin departed Sierra Leone on December 2, the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, met with the artist to bid him farewell and offer the nation’s apologies.
“We’re truly sorry for the incident on stage and so grateful he is safe,” Minister Tunis said. “He shared so much love with Sierra Leone.”
Despite his absence, Martin has urged his fanbase to continue supporting the Treasure Beach Food, Rum & Reggae Benefit Festival this Sunday.
“Please ensure you go out and support the show, it’s for a powerful cause,” Martin stated. “The lineup is incredible, and the performances will be amazing.”
Martin has assured fans he intends to be back “very soon” once his recovery is complete.
