Daniella Boima Garrick, a 21-year-old fashion model and advocate from Freetown, Sierra Leone, will represent her country at the first-ever Mr & Miss Albinism Africa 2025 pageant, which will be held in Zimbabwe.
The pageant is scheduled for June 23–28, 2025, and is part of the wider African Diversity Festival. Daniella, who graduated with a Diploma in Air Travel Management, is passionate about supporting the rights and welfare of persons with albinism, as well as women and girls with disabilities in Sierra Leone.
She serves as the Ambassador and Gender Welfare Communication Officer of the Sierra Leone Association of Persons With Albinism (SLAPWA) and is the newly elected National Youth Leader of the Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues (SLUDI).
Daniella shared her gratitude for the chance to represent Sierra Leone at the inaugural event. She explained that this is about more than just winning a title it is an opportunity to give a voice to people with albinism who have often been overlooked. She is entering the competition with determination, pride, and strength.
The pageant aims to promote social inclusion, boost self-esteem, and challenge the stigma faced by people with albinism. The African Diversity Festival will also offer a space for people from different backgrounds to communicate and learn from each other.
Daniella hopes to raise awareness about albinism and to change harmful misconceptions. She stresses that albinism is not a contagious disease. She also wants to inspire those who have ever doubted their worth to embrace their uniqueness.
As she prepares for the event, Daniella sees this as more than a competition it is a chance to stand tall and represent people with albinism with pride.
She looks forward to making history and encouraging others across Africa.
