The  Management of Red Flag Muzik (RFM) has alleged that popular musician, Alhaji Amadu Bah, popularly known as LAJ, continues to endure human rights violations while incarcerated at the special court correctional facility in Freetown.

The Management revealed that on the early morning of 26th July 2023, LAJ was startled awake at 4 am by a team of armed military and prison officers, led by Colonel Gorgra, who appeared in his cell unannounced.

The surprise visit, supposedly aimed at finding a contraband phone, left LAJ puzzled as no such item was discovered during the search.

When questioned about the rationale behind the late-night search, Colonel Gogra informed LAJ that it was based on President Bio’s concerns that LAJ was using a phone from the Correctional Centre to instigate attacks on the government through diaspora contacts,” RFM stated.

They furthered that as a result of this incident, the authorities at the Special Court Correctional Centre have imposed restrictions, preventing visitors from seeing LAJ and denying him access to food, water, and communication with family and friends. Even his lawyers are being barred from meeting him.

The RFM Management expressed deep concern over the safety of LAJ, as unidentified armed military officers have begun entering his cell at irregular hours. This treatment stands in stark contrast to other inmates, raising doubts about his well-being and safety while under the supervision of prison officers,” they stated.

It is worth noting that LAJ has maintained a calm and law-abiding demeanor since his arrival at the Special Court prison, despite facing previous mistreatment during his time in Benghazi. The US State Department’s Report on Human Rights in Sierra Leone documented the abuses he endured, including injection with substances and forced hair cutting. Despite his ordeal, LAJ’s 9-year prison sentence continues to be marred by humiliation and mistreatment.”

The RFM Management emphasized that LAJ is not responsible for the content posted on social media about him, as his social media platforms are managed by a dedicated team.

They also highlighted his active involvement in the music industry prior to his incarceration, urging authorities not to hinder his musical career while serving his sentence.

In light of these grave concerns, the relevant authorities are urged to treat LAJ fairly, ensuring that he receives the same treatment as other inmates and that his human rights are respected and protected.
