In a candid interview with Silk TV, renowned Sierra Leonean female hip-hop artist Natasha Beckley, popularly known as Swadu, revealed the deeply personal reasons behind her decision to convert to Islam.

Swadu recounted a significant dream she had in 2021, after praying fervently for seven years for a particular blessing. In this dream, she found herself urgently summoned by a friend to join them for Juma prayers, prompting her to don a hijab and participate in the prayers. Remarkably, the blessing she had long prayed for manifested on the same day as the dream.

For over a year, Swadu sought the interpretation of this profound dream from various individuals, including scholars. It wasn’t until November 2022, while in Congo Cross, that she heard the call to prayer and instinctively headed to the nearby Fullah mosque. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of her journey towards embracing Islam.

Addressing her ethnic background, Swadu clarified that while she identifies as Krio, she is actually of Fulah and Mandingo descent, with roots tracing back to Kabala.
