Former Social Welfare and Gender Affairs Minister, Sylvia Blyden, has expressed her pride and support for the upcoming Kenema Fashion Week Season 3. Blyden, a sponsor of the event, expressed her excitement and regarding the event, which aims to uplift local youth and promote the cultural heritage of the Eastern Region.
In a statement, she stated the importance of the fashion week in shining a light on the talents of Kenema’s youth, especially in a time when negative news often overshadows positive contributions. “Amidst the challenges we sometimes hear about our youth, it’s inspiring to see young people coming together to create something meaningful and positive,” she said.
Kenema Fashion Week is set to take place on the 5th April, 2025, at the Kenema City Plaza. Reportedly, the event not only showcases the creativity of local designers and models but also promotes economic growth in the community. Tickets for the event are priced at Le 30 in advance and Le 40 at the gate, making it accessible for local attendees.
The initiative aimed to blend traditional and contemporary fashion, leveraging the power of creativity as a tool for youth empowerment. The former minister underscored that the platform enables young creatives to build their own brands, while also helps to grow Kenema’s reputation as a rising fashion hub in Sierra Leone.
