Meet our man crush for the eighth week in the year, Abubakarr Bah.
When life throws some challenge at you, use them as stepping stones. Here is a man who had defiled the odds not to be educated, gave his all to bring information to the grassroot.
Abubakarr Bah is Sierra Leone’s Information Attache to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Abubakarr started his early years in the small town of Madulee Village, some distance away from Kalangba, Bombali District. He attended the Saint Francis Primary and Secondary Schools before the rebel interregnum which disrupted Mr. Bah’s education for 4 years between 1998 and 2002.
He graduated with First Class on Honours in Mass Communication from Fourah Bay College while working at Cotton Tree News (CTN) in 2013. His passion for education took him through the hurdles and pushed him furthere to bag a Master’s Degree in the same field of study from the University of Sierra Leone.
Mr. Bah changed career in 2014 when he quitted journalism which he has been known for, to work in the Public Service sector. He has progressed steadily in the field of diplomacy, with a focus on developing his career in that regard. He worked as a Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Sierra Leone Standards Bureau from 2014 to his appointment as a Diplomat by His Excellency, Dr Julius Maada Bio in 2020. He currently work directly under the Head of Chancery of the Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Alhaji Ahmed Tejan Kabba.
With his understanding about the communication link between the people and government, Mr. Bah helped in the creation of a functional website for the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Saudi Arabia in 2023. The website showcases the activities of the Sierra Leone Mission in its diplomatic districts in the middle East as well as provides reliable information regarding consular services, Sierra Leone’s historical heritage, tourism, trade, and investment opportunities among others.
Mr. Bah has also publish two editions of the Embassy Newsletter; the First edition catalogues the diplomatic relations between the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the second edition is titled Hajj Special; which gives an eye-opener of what is Hajj and Umrah as well as a comprehensive reportage of the 2022/1443 Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Some of Bah’s immediate Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Monitor and document news developments and write the daily press review; advice on communication-related matters, host media events and organize meetings with the press for the Ambassador or the Embassy, report on activities of the Mission, develop Press Releases and other communication content, manage and feed the Mission’s website, Twitter and Facebook Pages, assist in developing Quarterly Post and Administrative Reports, initiate and coordinate activities with the Sierra Leone Community in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as coordinate internal and external communication, facilitate trade and investment meeting, among others.
He is happily married and blessed with a son and two daughters.
