Valentine is about a man who showed love some time ago. Here was a man, who identified with the downtrodden people in his own time, The Guardian (2017) publication describes valentines.
It says that valentines is a period when people should identify with the poor and share whatever they have with the less privileged in society, a type of love expected to be demonstrated during valentines.
Valentines date back to the third Century in Rome where there were many Valentines associated with February 14.
The Catholic Church has canonised at least three different Saint Valentines, all of whom were martyred and died for love.
The most common is Saint Valentine who was a Catholic Priest who lived in the third Century in Rome during the reign of Emperor Claudius the second.
Emperor Claudius passed a law that made marriage illegal for all young men.
He believed that single men made better soldiers than married men with families.
Valentine advocated for marriage and even initiated marriage ceremonies.
Emperor Claudius attempted to convert Valentine to paganism to save his life. Valentine refused and tried to convert Claudius to Christianity.
As a result, he was executed. Before his execution, Valentine reportedly performed a miracle by healing the daughter of his jailer.
An 18th-century embellishment to the legend claims he wrote the jailer’s daughter a letter signed “Your Valentine” as a farewell before his execution.
According to The Guardian [2017], young girls should not be carried away by roses and life.
Instead, they should concentrate on the love of God by sharing with the people, who are less privileged in society.
