An international humanitarian organisation, Rotary has trained over 650 health workers in perinatal asphyxia through their “Helping Babies Breathe” program.
“This training addresses perinatal asphyxia, a leading cause of neonatal mortality,” the organisation said on X.
Sierra Leone has one of the highest rates of infant mortality with Statista reporting last month that there are over 70 deaths per 1,000 births every year. Rotary, however, hope that this program will expose the health workers to knowledge based on newborn resuscitation thereby reducing infant mortality in the country.
Rotary has been assisting vulnerable populations in Sierra Leone for decades through clubs like the Rotary Club of Freetown-Sunset and the Rotaract Clubs of Freetown-Sunset, Freetown and Mount Aureol.
