Forty nine pin coded teachers from eleven schools in Bombali district are reported to have abandoned their schools to seek greener pastures elsewhere even though their salari continues to be paid to their bank accounts.

Sources say the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) embarked on verification exercise in schools to determine whether teachers are teaching or not.
The first verification exercise in eleven schools revealed that one hundred and sixty nine (169) teachers illegally transferred themselves to other schools without the consent and approval of the Commission.

The Commission’s policy states that no teacher should transfer himself or herself to another school without the expressed clearance from the Teaching Service Commission. Since the affected teachers were not found in the the original schools assigned, their October salaries were suspended by government.

The affected teachers were encouraged to produce valid documents including the school registers to justify that they are teaching in the new schools.

Sources say of the one hundred and sixty nine, one hundred and ten (110) teachers produced all valid documents to the Commission and they were reinstated and paid their November salaries.

“The remaining 49 teachers did not show up. Some of them have secured jobs at NGOs while others have left the country to seek greener pastures,” a senior official remarked. The senior official said there are hundreds of trained and qualified teachers out there without pin code and government is going to consider them in the next recruitment exercise. He said: “The salaries of the 49. teachers have been blocked since October.” He said the verification exercise is expected to resume in January 2023.
