AdvocAid has on the 9th December 2023 rolled out community outreach event in Kenema City on the campaign on all forms of violence against women and girls who abuse drugs.
The event was built on the theme “Encouraging awareness and action against all forms of violence against women and girls who use drugs in Sierra Leone’’ that was implemented by the AdvocAid and funded by women Harm Reduction based on conducting the community and legal outreaches under the EVAWUD project which aims at the elimination of violence against women who use drugs during the 16 days of activism for 2023.
The community outreach was focused at addressing gendered harmful attitudes and behaviour towards women who use drugs while advocating for promotion of their reintegration into their communities.
This provided an opportunity for legal education to the Fisheries community, which is the biggest market in Kenema and hosts women and girls including drug survivors to empower them to know their legal rights as existing laws are mainly enforced against drug users from disadvantaged populations.
The information sharing and engagement was done via mouths and the use of placards which shows different messages in relation to the drawing the attention as well as awareness raising and action on all forms of violence against women using drugs.
