Kamara Bai Sama, of the Bomboya ruling house, has been elected Paramount Chief of Loko Masama Chiefdom in the Port Loko District of Sierra Leone.
The close-fought contest, held on Sunday, March 10th, 2024, at the Lokomasama Court Barray, saw Sama emerge victorious after a run-off election.
Sama secured a narrow win, garnering 650 votes (51.5%) compared to his challenger, Kamara Bai Kandeh, of the Samaya ruling house, who received 613 votes (48.5%).
The announcement was made by Mr. Andrew J Fofanah, the Provincial Secretary of the North West Region, following an electoral process overseen by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL). Mr. Fofanah was assisted by his accessory chiefs, PC Koblo Queen of Marampa Chiefdom and Kandeh Kargbo of Kareneh District.
This victory comes after a successful first round on Saturday, March 9th, where both Sama and Kandeh emerged as frontrunners from a field of eight qualified candidates.
