The Benevolent Old Students Association (BENOSA) of Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST) Makeni Campus has issued a strong condemnation statement regarding the recent fire incident at Benevolent Islamic Secondary School in Makeni.

The incident, allegedly caused by unidentified individuals following reports of mass academic failure, has sparked widespread concern and outrage.

In a statement signed by Secretary General Fuad Bangura, BENOSA described the act as “criminal and unethical” and a “direct attack on the very foundation of education and development.” The association emphasized that violence is never a justified response to academic challenges and that proper mechanisms exist for review, counseling, and appeal.

BENOSA reaffirmed its belief in the professionalism and dedication of the school’s leadership, including the principal, administration, and teaching staff. The association highlighted the school’s transparent and accountable examination process, which includes providing students with both their report cards and marked scripts.

The association has called on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable under the laws of Sierra Leone. BENOSA has also urged its fellow alumni, students, and community members to come together in unity, peace, and purpose to rebuild and support the school.

“Let us uphold the legacy of our beloved school,” the statement read. “Discipline not anger should define us. Let Benevolent rise stronger than ever.”

The statement demonstrates BENOSA’s commitment to promoting education, integrity, and peaceful conduct, and its determination to support the school in its efforts to provide quality education to its students.
